At this relatively early stage of the outbreak in New York City, few people we wearing masks still—probably fewer than 1 in 100 people—but the subway often seemed a little emptier already.

There was a long line of people waiting to get into Webster Hall to my immediate left when I took this photo—just three days before gatherings of over 500 people were banned in New York City.
