Post Makes a Promising Social Media Debut

I joined the new social media platform Post last night after signing up early for the beta and I have some thoughts. First off, it’s really good. Especially from both a UI and UX perspective.

Post proves a refreshingly clean substitute for Twitter. So far, it features 1000% fewer trolls, too. So far, it seems they are reviewing signups by hand. Last night, there were still only ~3500 people on board, but some big names had already shown up, including Molly Jong Fast, Josh Marshall, Kara Swisher, Taylor Lorenz, Jim Gaffigan and, notably, Reuters.

Let’s remind ourselves of the obvious: This launch is taking place against the stunning backdrop of Twitter’s seeming bonfire and decline as a platform given the changes Elon Musk has been making since taking over the company.

So what are some key differentiators Post offers from Twitter and other platforms?

Post feels like a Twitter/Tumblr/Medium mashup. Posts can be any length but they’re abbreviated by default so they don’t clutter your feed. (I’ve long thought Twitter could do this. There’s some beauty to the a tweet’s brevity. On the other hand, brutality can be hashed out in curt quick tweets, too.)
